Celebrating Bermuda’s Historic Environment

An Open House of the Bermuda National Museum , including the Northwest Rampart and Casemate Barracks

On May 1^st From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In celebration with the National Museum of Bermuda and the Catlin End-to-End 

Join the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs as we celebrate our archeological and military history with the National Museum of Bermuda on 1^st May/the Catlin End-to-End Day.  The Heritage Month theme for 2010, Green: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, aims to raise public awareness of the value of preserving Bermuda’s historic environment.  In honoring Bermuda’s built heritage, our premier event celebrates with an Open House of the Bermuda National Museum; which includes Commissioner’s House, the Northwest Rampart and the Casemate Barracks.   

This Open House will take place in Dockyard alongside the Catlin End-to-End presenting a unique opportunity to educate the public on the ‘monumental works’ of the fortifications of the Dockyard.  In addition, this journey though that historic environment also affords the opportunity to highlight Bermuda’s traditional modes of transportation, as were used in the earlier centuries of our settlement and which were less destructive to our environment

We invite the public to walk, carpool or take a free ferry ride to the Dockyard and celebrate Bermuda’s most valued asset – our historic environment.  Come  and experience all there is to see and do.  From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. activities for this grand open house event will include: 

• free horse and buggy rides into our past via the Northwest Rampart
• An Open House at the National Museum (including Commissioner’s House and parts of the Casemate Barracks area) as well as Dolphin Quest
• Live Bermuda Folk Music
• An electric bike, car and antique horse and buggy display
• An all-natural Kiddie Zone
• All natural food vendors 

The Department extends a special “thank you” to the National Museum of Bermuda and to the organizers and participants of the Catlin End-to-End, who annually highlight the enriching experience of our oldest form of transportation – walking.

 Presents the first race of the 2010 season at the Royal Naval Dockyard on Sunday 11th April 2010 from 11am to 4pm.

Powerboat racing will kick off at 1.30pm.

There will be food and boat vendors, fun castles for the children and a remote control boat display and race.

The Bermuda Billfish Release Cup tournament starts the Bermuda billfish season with a fun, family-oriented, all-release billfish tournament that also features a separate game-fish tournament division. Teams can enter the billfish division, game-fish division or both, and compete for cash and prizes and a chance to go to the IGFA Offshore World Championship. 

The Release Cup takes place at the Royal Naval Dockyard and kicks off with a final registration party, Friday, June 25, at Bone Fish Bar & Grill.  Fishing is Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th, followed by an awards banquet at Bonefish on Sunday night. So make sure to put the Bermuda Billfish Release Cup on your 2010 tournament schedule.

The Catlin End-to-End is a charity fundraising fitness event that will take place on Saturday, May 1, 2010. 

The annual event, in it’s 23^rd year, raises over $300,000 each year for charity, with over 3,000 walkers, runners, swimmers, equestrians, sailors, cyclists and rowers taking part.  There are various distances and methods of participation as noted. 

The 26 mile walk/run,cycle starts at 8am in St.George’s to Dockyard.  The 14 mile Middle to End starts at 10am from Albuoy’s Point in the city of Hamilton.  The 12 mile Middle to End cycle starts from Bermuda College at 11am.  The 4 mile Fun Walk starts from Sandys Middle School on Scotts Hill Road in Sandys Parish at 2pm.

Adult participants pay $40.00 to enter and receive a high-quality t-shirt, goody bag that includes such items as a eco-friendly water bottle, snacks etc. Young adults, under 18, do not pay the registration fee but are asked to raise $40.00 in pledges.  All participants are encouraged to raise at least $100.00 in pledges that go 100% toward the chosen charities.

The Catlin End-to-End is the only fitness event where you are able to walk an entire country in one day!  Visitors to the island will enjoy the opportunity to mingle with locals, the 14 water stops along with the way that serve water, food and entertainment.
